Seventh seed Rishika Sunkara kept India’s challenge alive by entering
the girls’ singles quarter-final on day four of the Asian Closed
Junior Tennis Championship at RK Khanna Tennis Complex on Thursday.
Sunkara prevailed over her Chinese opponent, 11th seed Zhaoxuan Yang
with a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
Other Indian hopefuls in the girls’ singles, Ankita Raina (No. 14),
Sharon Sanchana Paul (15), 10th seed Kyra Shroff, Adnya Naik and
Natasha Palha tasted defeat at the pre-quarterfinal stage. The top
five seeded girls have all secured their place in the last eight of
the competition, which is a test event for the 2010 Commonwealth
Games.
Following are the completed results of the girls’ singles
pre-quarterfinal matches till 7 pm.

7. Miyu Kato (JPN) [3] beat Li-Yun ‘Stefanie’ Tan (SIN) [13] 6-4, 6-4
8. Miho Kowase (JPN) [9] beat Napatsakorn Sankaew (THA) [6] 7-5, 2-6, 6-1
