India not having promising start at the Badminton Asia Championships day 1

India did not have a promising start at the Badminton Asia Championships as both, Gayatri Vartak and Thulasi PC failed to make it to the final of the qualifying round on Day 1.


Gayatri Vartak beat Chandrika De Silva of Sri Lanka 21-17, 21-12 in the quarter finals of the qualifying round but lost to Xin Liu of China in the semi-finals of the qualifiers.

Thulasi PC also made it to the semis of qualifiers by beating Sara Khan of Pakistan 21-17, 21-12 but faltered in semis of the qualification round to Hsia Ma Pai of Chinese Taipie 8-21, 9-21



So no Indians feature in the finals of the qualifying round to be played on Day 2, April 13, 2010 of the Championships. The main draw starts Wednesday with Saina Nehwal taking on Thailand's Porntip Buranaprasertsuk in the 17th match on Court 3 on Day 3 that starts at 9:00 am. Top seeds in mixed doubles Jawla Gutta and V Diju also play on same court before Saina.
