Origin of the British Empire Games Flag

The British Empire Games Association of Canada donated the flag during the inaugural games in Hamilton, Ontario (Canada). The year and place of subsequent games were added until the 1950, Auckland Games. The name of the game was changed to the British Empire and Commonwealth Games and the flag was retired as a result. From 1930 to 1950, the parade of nations was led by a single flagbearer carrying Union Flag, symbolizing Britain’s foremost role in the British Empire.
