India to vie for third place in Asian Youth Netball Championship

Indian eves stumbled in the semi-final of the 7th Asian Youth Netball Championship with a 36-59 (07-14, 08-12, 09-17, 12-16) defeat to favourites Malaysia on Day 6 of the tournament at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex in New Delhi on Friday.


Malaysia will take on Sri Lanka in the final of the competition. The Sri Lankan eves caused a major upset when they beat Singapore 55-47 (14-13, 15-12, 13-11, 13-11) in the second semi-final. India will play Singapore in the 3/4th place playoff on the final day of the competition on Saturday.

In the earlier fixture, Hong Kong registered a narrow victory over Thailand in a thrilling contest. Hong Kong won 58-57 (13-11, 13-17, 13- 18, 19-11).

The 3/4th place playoff will start at 2.30 pm while the final match will begin at 4.30 pm IST.
Netball Federation of India President Mr Gurbir Singh, Asian Netball Association President Ms Anna Wong and Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Secretary General Mr Lalit Bhanot will preside over the closing ceremony on Saturday, July 10.
